Birthday treat for Mrs

My wife wanted to eat here to celebrate her birthday as she loved the Canneloni. When we arrived the
cannelloni was off the menu!! We
ordered a kids meal of dough balls
and pizza and ice cream as well
as a calabresse pizza and a white sauce penne pasta dish.

Frankly speaking the quality of the food left a lot to be desired. I think Pizza Express are leaving the tried and tested staples of quality pasta and pizza dishes and are trying too hard to "jazz up" their dishes. Had s Tastecard and mentioned this when reserving and ordering, yet bill was still wrong!! Paid £30 I guess was prices for what we got.

Bike ride

I was walking through town and a very polite young lady invited me to take a ride on a bike. Now this was not any old bike!!! It was a bar on wheels running on peddle power!! It was commandeered by research students from QUB. It's aim was for the public to try it out and learn about health and social issues. Let me tell you it was challenging!! Will u have a go?

Tesco food festival

Earlier today I attended the press launch of the 2015 TESCO Food Festival at Custom House Square and had a super time.

It was superb in that we (invited guests) had clear access to all the stalls. Very important as you can actually manoeuvre properly without the heat and cramped conditions when it's open to the public!!!

After speeches by dignitaries and all that are important the Belfast Gospel Choir sang and officially kicked off proceedings. It's great to see TESCO grow from its roots in May 1997, when it started in NI spending £50 million, to now spending over £550 million, employing over 8000 local people and selling 1200 local lines.

It's also good to see that they listen to their customers and provide more in terms of education (there were lots of school groups in today) and a reduction in total number of lines (which I suggested earlier).

There were a number of established big boys on display (eg Tayto, Cookstown, Dale Farm,Irwins,Moy Park & Punjana to name a few) as well as new and upcoming players (Mash Direct, Just Live A Little, Mallon Foods, Big Pot Co and many more). Please see pictures below.

Just a couple of newbies on the horizon to watch out for are the pork goujons from Connolly's and chocolate brownie pizza from Goodfellas which really tasted good.

So get down to Custom House Square today (til 8pm as its Culture Night also), Saturday and Sunday.

Super Spence chippy

Spences fish and chip shop in East Belfast is an old stalwart of the community. It's an amazing fish and chip shop which still serves chips in yesterday's news!!!

I had a lovely portion if curry chips for £3. They serve a good range of traditional chip shop food.Well worth it and a super place. So do pay it a visit.

Fish and chips

Had a nice lunch at The Crown in Belfast today. A reasonable sized dish served on a big oval bowl type plate. Superb surroundings and craic was plenty from the bar man!!!

The fish was a tad too firm, the batter very very crispy, chips great, tartare sauce had perfect tartness but the mushy peas let the fish down.

I felt for £11.95 its worth it, but would like to see a few more chips!!
