Family friends wedding at the Khayber

We have just come back from a traditional Islamic wedding ceremony or Nikah followed by lunch at The Khayber Restaurant:

373 Antrim Road
Newtownabbey
Northern Ireland
BT36
United Kingdom

In Islam marriage is a legal contract between two people. The bride is to consent to the marriage of her own free will. A formal, binding contract is considered integral to a religiously valid Islamic marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom and bride. There must be two Muslim witnesses of the marriage contract(1). The ceremony itself is very short and performed by an Islamic priest or Immam. After this was a glorious lunch.

The Groom was Aamir and his bride was Talitha. Both wore very ornate and traditional wedding garments and were well colour co-ordinated, colours being dark red and gold and this was reflected in the cake. Aamir's costume is called a Sherwani (top) and kurta pyjama with matching scarf and shoes, whilst Talitha
wore a Lehenga with blouse and head scarf. The detail of the embroidery was very intricate.

For lunch there was shish kebab, vegetable samosa with salad and a tamarind sauce. For main course there was butter chicken (on the bone), lamb Karahi (on the bone), daal makhani, saag and cumin rice and naan. The team at the Khayber really excelled themselves as this was truly the most authentic tasting food I have had for some time (especially the meat as it was on the bone). Then it was cake cutting time, such a shame as it looked fabulous and tasted even better (mix between plain sponge with buttercream and chocolate). So super day and congrats to the bride and groom, also the Khayber for a superb meal.
