Visit Belfast Presentation at City Hall

Firstly a big thanks to Visit Belfast, from the BFM/BTM for inviting me to this superb presentation, hosted by the Number one Citizen of Belfast, the Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Arder Carson, in the Great Hall at Belfast City Hall- what a superb location.

Gerry Lennon, the Chief Executive of Visit Belfast (VB) set out the vision and plans for VB for the next five years and they are fantastic, ambitious but very achievable! Well done Gerry as you had a touch of 'man flu'.

Next we had a great overview of, by far the most 'blue sky' conference I have ever heard of, by Rachael McGuickin, the Director of Business Tourism. Rachael is a very talented and confident young lady and delivered the presentation which much pride and passion. She talked about the EnterConf and MoneyConf taking place in June across the city. This is the brainchild of Paddy Cosgrave (Web Summit based in Dublin). It is a totally unique gathering of all minds techie across the whole city, in particular the Cathedral and Our own 'Silicone Quarter' the Titanic Quarter. Corporate events are replaced  by informal. It's a huge opportunity for all businesses in the Greater Belfast area to take part in. I wish the magnificent seven all the best wishes I can bestow.

Then we had a presentation from Gerry Copeland, the Belfast City Council Events manager, about the Tall Ships event in July. Again a superb International event centred mainly in the Harbour, but drawing on the city and Province as a whole, especially County Antrim. This was then rounded off by Mary Jo McCanny the Director of Visitor Servicing.

Lunch was provided by Posh Nosh Caterers and was delicious, I opted for the vegetable 'curry', rice, champ, potato salad and coleslaw. There was a beef and chicken main. Food was delicious and staff super efficient, well turned out and polite.

I am very positive that Belfast and Northern Ireland has the quality people, institutions and infrastructure to make these a success and I fully endorse and support the plans laid out. I am very excited to play my part, are you?
