On arrival I was greeted by Alison McCombe the General Manager who gave me a bit of the history.
Local hotelier Mr Stephen McCombe started in 1990. 2015 is the 25th anniversary year. Has 24 bed rooms, Sam's Bar and Lounge (with Grand piano played on a Saturday night), De Courcy function suite (just had a rejuvenated floor to spruce it up), Upton Grill (all day bistro) and A La Carte restaurant called Raffles. Raffles is fine dining and opens on Saturday night and Sunday lunch. For lunch I had the Chicken Linguine (£13.50) which had a white Gorgonzola sauce and pancetta.
Superb venue for a wedding (I know as my sister was married here), great bar with waterfall feature, fantastic food with open kitchen in the Upton Grill, menu range is just right. The staff are superb. Not bad for a 25 year old local 3 star hotel, should be 4!! The exterior architecture and plants make super backdrops for (wedding) pictures. There is also a spa available and a paying wifi facility.
I would like to see information on food allergens and scores on the doors displayed a bit more prominently.
Otherwise do try this place for a drink, afternoon tea, meal or fine dining, as well as conference, private parties, product launches or weddings.
Great to see success of a locally owned and run established hotel using fine local produce.
